How to install?

SOrry to be a noob. I was going to install Ubuntu using wubi but found that it was limited to using 17gb of my hard drive, I was told it would be better to install from a disk or USB, but does it state in the installation process where i want it to be installed?
If you look in the picture below, I want Ubuntu to be stored and ran from the (D: ) HDD. Will this interfere with my vista which is on the (C: ) HDD? ALso is this classified as partitioned? Additionally the lower section of the image boxed in black is what is the (D: ) HDD

At the partitioning stage, you can either chose the partition to install to, or resize(shrink) a partition and install Ubuntu into the freed space.
