regarding audio and video problem

i installed ubuntu there is another problem iam getting is that i cant play any audio file or video file when i clicked on the file it is saying search for suitable codec when i click on search it is some errors any help will be appreaciated
i attached screen shot.

KVTR - What version of Ubuntu did you install? And what audio program did you use for trying to play an audio file? Also, What Format was the file in? MP3, OGG, Flac, etc.?

The screenshot looks like it 7.10 or gutsy. I think that is not supported and the repositories are gone with is why it fails.

To check your version you can do


cat /etc/issue

If you are on 7.10 you might want to get the lasted version 10.04 and try that.
