Guys....I got Ubuntu latest lucid lynx with Linux for you magazine....

I put it into DVD drive...

Started system..

Got prompt....Press any key to continue..

I pressed...

After that one big logo appeared...below that animated loading image..

after few minutes animation stopped...

after few mins..screen went blank...

My system has intel P4,256MB RAM....what could be the reason behind this?

I tried 5 times then gave up...please help me.

A Pentium 4, 1GHz system is the minimum recommended for a desktop system.
Table 3.2. Recommended Minimum System Requirements
RAM (recommended) 512 megabytes

Your machine will not support any of the regular Ubuntus, but you can install a minimal:

Or maybe, you are using a scratched CD? Oh wait, yeah. Go with a older or lesser version of ubuntu.

In general it is good to try an older *but still supported* Ubuntu, but with 256 MB memory it will not run well.

Go for the minimal installation. Though there are a lot of screen shots in the manual, it is really simple to set up.

Xubuntu is pretty good, but I think your RAM barely makes the requirements. Lubuntu is an even lighter alternative, and should run great on your computer. Give it a shot.
