haven't had an issue with my 2 drive enclosure that I usually don't have closed in. and toasters aren't enclosed. my hard drives seem fine in it. ... too... many ... hard drives... must get another ...tower :S

allright cool thanks. i've had one sitting out for awhile that i don't use but might want too someday. anyone know how to preserve a harddrive?

Stick it in a close-fitting box filled with rice (to absorb moisture and shock) and stick the box in an airtight bag. Just make sure you get all rice off before re-using the drive

Hard drives are fully sealed anyway, and most computer cases have negative pressure and no dust filters, so the inside of a computer is actually MORE dusty than outside.

Vibrations can damage a hard disk very easily. It needs to be fixed down.
