Any good aquarium forums out there for a noob? I just bought a 55 gallon (208 liter) community aquarium tank. I'm planning on planting a lot of plants first for a few months and then introducing the fish. I'm going to try to make a very nice aquascaped environment. Any help would be most appreciated.

AquariumForum.com (http://www.aquariumforum.com/)? #1 Aquarium forum apparently ;)

The colour scheme hurts my eyes.

Thank you chriswyatt and Sporkman. Any personal experience with the forums? I'm going to sign up at the 2 mentioned so far. :)

Lots of pretty pics at plantedtank.net. :) I hung out there for a while when contemplating a freshwater tank. I've mainly had reef tanks though.

I realize I'm a little late, but I really like PetFish.net (http://www.petfish.net). That was my main online resource when I was first starting my aquarium six years ago. Granted, my tanks have been pretty stable recently, so I haven't been on the forum very much for a couple years, but I'm setting up some new tanks and so that is starting to change.

Sorry, all I did was Google. I do know this guy who's obsessed with fish / aquariums though and I've just asked him for a recommendation because I bet he's signed up to loads of forums. He even named his band after a type of fish. That'll make up for my badly informed answer anyway. ;)

Awesome, people on Linux forums are interested in aquariums :)

I've got 2 tanks and my girlfriend has a goldfish tank. Best hobby ever.

Bookmarked. Looks pretty cool and they have a ton of articles to read to.

I know I am also late. I have a bunch of DYI plans for things like skimmers and refugiums ect...

I am also working on a Reef automation system if anyone is interested in helping me and themselves build one. I am going to use a Lamp server and OWFS stuff to monitor temp ph calc salinity and also turn stuff on and off using a web interface. That way you can finally go on vacation and take care of the aquarium yourself from anywhere you can get online.

I forgot to say if anyone is interested in starting a project to get this done, send me an email @ rgalvez2009@gmail.com. Im weak on the web stuff and scripting but I strong in the electrical side and I have some cutting edge ideas not on the market as far as i can tell.

Also If anyone wants to trade coral or fish let me know. I go diving and catch fish of the coast of Florida all the time.

I wish you luck on the automation side of things, sounds pretty cool, just not my cup of tea. I would be cautious about catching fish from the sea for aquarium use because of various laws restricting catch of wild marine animals.

The laws are usually quite clear and easy to follow.

Over here all you need is an annual license and the license stipulates prohibited areas & species. Very clear.

I miss my 600 litre reef tank

Seeing you are going the plated tank route have you considered a Discus tank? They are usually planted tanks. A couple of Cardinal Tetras would make good companions.

A google for Discuss Tank will yield a lot of good info like http://www.aquariumhobbyist.com/discus/water/index.html
