Just a note of thanks to the Ubuntu support people and my recent positive experience. I tried linux a few years ago but never really got interested in it until recently installing Ubuntu 10.04. I have rather a limited computer knowledge (don't like using Terminal if I can avoid it).

I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on both Vista Ultimate and Windows7 Professional. In both cases the Windows OS was installed first.
I created a 10.04 ISO disk and simply ran wubi.exe in Windows. Vista was previously installed while Windows7 was a recent fresh install. With Windows7 I initially had problem with being able to choose Ubuntu during boot then uninstalled it (within Windows), took all the Windows updates then re-installed Ubuntu.

I also reset the default OS so Ubuntu would boot first (automatically unless Windows is selected).
Here's how I did that:
1. Right-Click on My Computer and select properties
– (In Vista you can select View System Information from the Computer window.)
2. From the System Properties window select the Advanced tab
3. Push the Settings button under Startup and Recovery
4. Select the default OS from the Default operating system dropdown box.
5. Click OK twice.

Hope my experience is of some help to others here
