If I have some corrupt configuration files, would they be corrcted on an upgrade of the version. I mean would I get the default configuration for the newer version and the old ones replaced or does it retain the old configuration on an upgrade?

user setting are separate from system settings, so you would have the setting you have now, but the system would have the new settings.

what configuration files are you actually talking about?
be specific, your asking a "what if" question, in that case anything can happen.

Supposing I have made some changes in the xwindow configuration files which is related to the look and feel and the desktop appearance. Would those settings be reset?
