View Full Version : [ubuntu] Laptop Fn Key 'Switches On' on removal of USB Keyboard

Hi y'all.

After upgrading to Lucid Lynx, I notice odd behaviour when I remove the USB keyboard.

The notebook's U, I,O,P, J,K,L, M, > and ? keys behave as if the Fn key is permanently pressed: that is, they act as if they are a numpad. (The F1-F12 keys do NOT behave as if Fn is on).

If I reboot with the USB keyboard disconnected, the issue goes away and the notebook keyboard behaves as one would normally expect: if I then plug IN a USB keyboard, both keyboards work fine. It is only when the USB keyboard is disconnected that the problem manifests - but then it persists until reboot (e.g., if a USB keyboard is then RE-connected, the notebook keyboard behaves as if Fn is depressed).

I have seen one other thread similar to this, but most Fn-key threads focus on brightness settings, and my brightness setting keys (Fn+F7/F8) work jest fine.

Any hints?

Cheerio

Perhaps it's a bit late, but for someone with the same problem:

Press Fn + "Num Lock"
