Notice: I am new to linux

I use "Asus Eee 900HA". when I first got this notebook it had old version of edubuntu! (from 2007 maybe) I tried to upgrade it but no luck! I tried to install new different version of ubuntu via terminal but no luck! it is full with errors! when I try to upgrade, to install new version, I cant start the program "restricted drivers manager", it doesnt support openGL to play games! some applications like counter strike 1.6(via wine), flightgear, google earth, Blender 3D modeler and much, much... more cant even start! I think there might be a problem with graphics/drivers because it seems to me that applications that contain 3D wont run! its simple when I click on them nothing happens! I tried for one week searching google for solutions but nothing is going to make things right! also I cant even change the background desktop image!!! well a lot of bugs and errors with no solution! I started to use linux because a long time ago I wanted to try linux and after using it somehow I felt in love with it. I like it a lot and I am learning more and more (I am interested in this) but right now I dont know what to do to fix this! I tried a lot of things from commands that I found searching and I think now I messed up things! I cant even run the basic programs that I used to do with windows on my pc! I cant even have video/sound conversation with aMSN. so please anyone who has time help me with this!?

Which version have you installed now?
Yet tried to re-setup ubuntu?

Guess you have..
why not give us a little more information about your problem instead of saying --"nothing works"? ;)

Yet tried to re-setup ubuntu?

When I turn on the notebook in the login screen it shows an image with the name EDUBUNTU but this shows something else:

DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=7.10
DISTRIB_CODENAME=gutsy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 7.10"

the first time when I tried to upgrade I couldt then I searched google and found some commands for update and upgrade, I tried those commands and messed up everything!
I even tried to install ubuntu desktop via termin..

Download a current version of Ubuntu and install it from scratch. Upgrading often has issues and won't work if coming from a version three years old.

when I try to upgrade it from update manage, I check for new releases and then this commes up:

http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/gutsy/restricted/binary-i386/Packages.gz: 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.30 80]
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/gutsy-updates/restricted/binary-i386/Packages.gz: 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.30 80]
http://switch.dl.sourceforge.net/project/ubuntuzilla/mozilla.apt/dists/all/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz: 302 Found
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/gutsy-proposed/restricted/binary-i386/Packages.gz: 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.30 80]
http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/gutsy-security/restricted/binary-i386/Packages.gz: 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.92.167 80]

then I press close and it continues to upgrade then it says:

Third party sources disabled

Some third party entries in your sources.list were disabled. You can re-enable them after the upgrade with the 'software-properties' tool or your package manager.

then I close again and it continues and gives me this:

Canonical Ltd. no longer provides support for the following software packages. You can still get support from the community.

If you have not enabled community maintained software (universe), these packages will be suggested for removal at the end of the upgrade.
libgdchart-gd2-noxpm
libnessus2
nessus

and then:

Can't install 'ubuntu-desktop'

It was impossible to install a required package. Please report this as a bug.

and then:

Could not calculate the upgrade

A unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

If none of this applies, then please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bugreport.

And ... what happened?

When nothing works it may be possible to get it working by upgrading..
but it may be kind of tricky ;)

If you're afraid the latest ubuntu won't be doing fine, you can of course install a previous one but why not just try? E.g. reinstall gutsy gibbon
setting up ubuntu is no travel around the world you know

In case you don't want to reinstall ubuntu for whatever reason I guess I can't help you either since it seems to be a serious issue

Ubuntu isn't hard to install now, actually if find it easier than installing e.g. windows 7 :)
just download 32 or 64-bit edition at
http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download
burn it to a disk and boot from it ...
you can do the rest intuitively - there are hundreds of manuals around the web showing how to install ubuntu

the most important thing is, you have a full backup of your data!
security goes first

You mean make a bootable flash drive?

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick

Burn is usually used in regards to optical discs like CD and DVD, not flash drives.
