Construction de l'arbre des dépendances
Lecture des informations d'état... Fait
mysql-server est déjà la plus récente version disponible.
0 mis à jour, 0 nouvellement installés, 0 à enlever et 86 non mis à jour.
pceib:/etc# /etc/init.d/mysql status
MySQL is stopped..
pceib:/etc# /etc/init.d/mysql start
Starting MySQL database server: mysqld . . . . . . . . . . . . . . failed!

debian-start, my.cnf are empty
& /var/run/mysqld does not exists.
I 've added manualy an empty mysqld.sock file , but same result.

some tryies :

pceib:/etc# mysql_install_db

and the result is
pceib:/etc# /etc/init.d/mysql start
Starting MySQL database server: mysqld . . . . . . . . . . . . . . failed!

using root, 'vi /etc/my.cnf' says it is empty
pceib:/etc# ls -l my*
total 16
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 jun 1 22:28 conf.d
-rw------- 1 root root 312 jun 1 22:28 debian.cnf
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1198 fév 13 11:56 debian-start

first try "sudo apt-get update"

then try with "sudo apt-get install mysql-client-core-5.1"

I suggest you try to install the mysql from the synaptic packet manager.
