Vent works in Wine, so I was told. But Vent has really bad voice codecs, and terrible security, there are absolutely no encryptions on the stream. Mumble however uses high quality codec, a low-latency network scheme, and uses SSL to encrypt the stream.

Mumble servers also cost less, in fact I have a 50 slot mumble server that recently fell into my lap for free. And the best part is, if you have a server you can host mumble for free no license fees.

Vent you have to buy a license to host it, or you have to buy hosting.

btw, Mumble is cross platform, for OS X, Linux, BSD, and Windows.
