I dual boot on my Dell desktop with Ubuntu 9.10 and Vista. I frequently use both because of the variety of programs that I have...some run in Windows and some run in Ubuntu. I prefer Ubuntu! :KS However, I can't help but notice how, "nice" the graphics look in Vista compared to Ubuntu. The letters look more crisp. The DPI of the screen (resolution) looks sharper. Even the colors are more vibrant. Why is that? How can I make Ubuntu look as sharp as Vista?

Thanks!

there are something called compiz config, which can make you graphics (and effects) in ubuntu look much more nice in ubuntu than vista...

enter synaptic package manager and search for "simple-ccsm" (without the quotes) and install that... now you have it under system and optins..

there are many option there

ADDED: or else there are the themes.. options -> appearance

Ok. I installed it but I don't see any information on how to use it. How do I activate the, "Cube". I've selected it in the setup menu but I don't see how to initiate it. Is there a hot key somewhere?

Hopefully it helps

Also there is a list of hotkeys somewhere. You can use a hotkey to rotate the cube on to the next facet. I do not remember the standard hotkey since I have configured it to super + ctrl + arrow (left or right)

Haa found it

there is a list of default hotkeys

First off, why does everyone worry about how there computer looks. Honestly its like worrying about which socks look better.. no body looks at your socks... well creepy people do.

First off, you're using the default Ubuntu/Gnome setup, I've seen setups that look mind blowing. But personally these HUGELY graphical intense UIs make me cringe, I use openbox and my machine boots into shell rather than X. So I do alot with command lines.

Trust me you look more tech savvy if you can do everything in command line, rather than if you can flip your Cube desktop over and drag your wobbly window to edit a file in gEdit...

But seriously Windows 7 doesn't have anything on Linux for looks...

But not all people use computers for technical stuff. Some people just use it for the web, basic word processing etc.
Some people like there desktops to look nice, and I'd say that covers over 95% of people at least.

Looks must mean something, or desktops would still look like win95
