I have a dell 1735 with vista with viruses do you know of a disc or software I could use to delete
m/s vista so the laptop can be clean before installing ubuntu

If its a clean install, probably dont need to worry - you will be reformatting with a new filesystem such as ext4 so there will not be any remnants of vista left.

davidmohammed is correct, just throw in the ubuntu cd and boot to it, it will take care of that pesky virus laden windows install by itself! Just choose to format the whole drive when asked, and go from there. Good luck and let us know when its done, or if you have problems.There are many good people in here that will help you out.:D
