Changing Mouse Shortcuts

Hi, I'm using 10.04 and I've got a mouse with forward and back buttons on the side, but I never use them for that function. I was wondering if there was a way I could change them to 'volume up' and 'volume down' buttons instead. I couldn't work out how to do it.

I have the same version of Ubuntu and am wondering the same thing, only I want to use the mouse wheel tilt to switch between workspaces, it would be so awesome not to have to switch to keyboard...
