View Full Version : [ubuntu] 8.04 to 10.04 server upgrade brings xorg

Using the instructions at http://help.ubuntu.com/community/LucidUpgrades I'm attempting to upgrade a server install from 8.04LTS to 10.04.

The upgrade wants to install entire xorg, various gnome libs and power management plus what looks like other desktop stuff. The server currently runs 8.04 server but with 2.6.24-28-generic kernel. Initially I installed vanilla ubuntu server 8.04, then switched to the generic kernel in order to get dvb-t support. Since then the box has been running a mythtv master-backend successfully and has never had X or power management installed.

The fact it wants to pull in these new packages makes me think I have some quirk with apt, perhaps with virtual packages. However, I have been successfully updating the box (dist-upgrade) for the last 2 years without issue and never seen it pull in unnecessary (IMO) packages.

The update is not pulling in mythtv-frontend so I am struggling to find what, if any package, has caused the X dependency.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
