hi all,

after installing 10.04 i noticed that fonts such as times new roman were not available. hence, i had installed the microsoft fonts package from the software centre.

now i notice in open office writer that although microsoft fonts such as times new roman, verdana etc are availalbe, the toolbar does not list OO fonts such as sans, sans serif etc.

in fact, i am not even sure if these are installed !

so what is the right way to intall fonts ?
and how does one check which fonts are installed on 10.04 and available and working with OO.org ?

thanks!

I installed gnome-specimen to view installed fonts.

sudo apt-get install gnome-specimen

It appears under the Applications > Graphics menu after installation, and shows all fonts that are installed and available.

Thanks, Lechien73 just what I needed. Like the avatar too.

Now anyone have any idea why the various variants of a font are showing up in applications?

I have several versions (light, Regular, Heavy, Hairline, etc.) of Lato installed - and showing up in gnome-specimen, but not in OO or Word 2010 (under WINE).

Suggestions appreciated.
