10.04 Screen resolution problem after install

Hi
I have installed Lucid on an Dell optiplex GX150.
After I log in there is nothing I can do. No panels although the wallpaper is present. I cannot right click on the desktop either. Alt-F2 works

Any ideas?

I forgot to mention that it worked ok until I did the first updates

If Alt+F2 works, type in gnome-panel in that box and tell if that works. If it does, I have a solution for ya.

Actually the title is erroneous. I dont thinks go to do with the resolution.
ALT+F2 then typing gnome-panel didn't do anything.
I have tried the install+update process 3 times now with the same result
