Hi,
I'm a non geek type who has had ubuntu installed on laptop for quite a while but today tried to upgrade from feisty fawn to 9.10 and it has totally freaked. I tried re-installing feisty fawn via installation CD but when I get to main screen from login it freezes & icons are missing. Can anyone help me - in simple terms please!

Thanks lez

the upgrade from feisty to 9.10 is not supported. I would suggest you download 10.04 and burn the ISO file to a CD. Boot from the CD, but when asked - choose "Try ubuntu without installing".

When it gets to a desktop, browse for your home folder copy any files you want to another hard-drive/USB stick.

Then go ahead and double click "install to disk" icon on the desktop.

After installation, copy back your documents and files from the hard-drive/usb stick.
