I know that I'm about 12 years late. But, I just beat Unreal tonight and it was a pretty amazing game. For it's time, it must have been revolutionary.
The graphics seemed to hold up pretty well, the textures still looked good. Poly count was low, but that's to be expected. There are actually higher res texture replacement packs you can download to replace the originals with, but I didn't use them. The soundtrack was also one of the best I've ever heard in a game.
I'm going to start playing Return to Na Pali next. And after that, maybe Unreal 2.
Why is it that you don't hear about it more often? I've told my friends about it and most them have never even heard of the game. When I say "Unreal" they just respond "you mean Unreal Tournament, right"? How is it that the the UT series of took off and yet nobody remembers Unreal? UT is just another arena shooter as far as I'm concerned. Unreal had a rich story line as well as impressive level design.
Anyone else like it?
