View Full Version : [ubuntu] 10.04 install fails on select and install software

I'm trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 32bit with the alternate install CD. It gets to the "Select and Install Software" stage and stops part way through and gives an error message with the blue bg turning red.

I've burned a second copy with no success from an iso with the correct md5 hash. So its not the disc.

If I try and continue the installation it seems to work but when I boot up I get dumped into the command line. Trying to start the gui gives me a message about being in low graphics mode.

From looking at the logs during the install (using alt+F2 to open a second terminal) it appears that 'pkgsel' is causing the error.

Any help would be appreciated.

The majority of the time, it's because of a corrupted burn. Sorry.

I found the best way of avoiding a corrupted burn, is to use Puppy 5.0.1 and use PBurn, because of its MD5 comparer. It will actually compare the MD5 of the burn to the MD5 of the ISO.

Would 2 CDs really fail, seeing as I have managed to install 10.04 of the first one a few days ago, but couldnt get my wireless working and wanted to start again from a clean install. It's why I'm so confused its stopped working.

Managed to get my syslog file. Here's where the errors appear to be if its enlightening for someone.

I'm having this exact same problem, was anyone able to find a solution? The installer CD integrity test returned a success.

Thanks!
