Hi, I've recently checking out feature requests for android. I have started one here (http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=9448&q=mkv&colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20Sta rs) and there is a related one here. (http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=5560&q=mkv&colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20Sta rs)

I ask you to please sign in if you have a gmail account and just star these to show your support.

"MKV" redirects here. For the planned U.S. missile defense program, see Multiple Kill Vehicle.

The Matroska Multimedia Container is an open standard free container format, a file format that can hold an unlimited number of video, audio, picture or subtitle tracks inside a single file.

I'm assuming that the OP isn't trying to use his Droid to shoot down nuclear warheads, so that leaves the multimedia thing.

this might help for mkv, convert the video

http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-audio-video/9118-mkv-support-droid.html

i think mkv support will not come soon, even by android 3.0

maybe is better to ask for this feature on the websites of other android media players.

is there a vlc for android or similar?

http://www.matroska.org/technical/whatis/index.html it's an awesome container, sofsubs...multiple audio tracks...chapters... and alledadly dvd-esque menus (i've never seen that) webm is vp8 + vorbis in a subset of mkv (I heard softsubs didn't make it into the "subset" which makes me sad...softsubbed html5 video everywhere would be awesome especially for the hearing impaired...anywhoo it's not in webm AFAIK which makes me a sad panda)

I know I can convert that's not the point, I don't want help. I just posted here to make people aware of the links and call them to "vote it up".

edit: oh yea and it's open source :D

Does Android have AVI support? That should come first. MKV should also be on the list.

No it doesn't, one of my links it get FLAC xvid/divx mkv support.

On a related note, I wonder if we'll see vp8 support in gingerbread since it is supposed to have webm support in browser.

I have the Entourage edge, so this interests me. They still only have 1.6 for it though. 2.2 wont be out for a while.

I would love to put Ubuntu on it instead.
