Doubt on processor

Which processor is better. Dual core with 2.3 GHz. Or Quad core with 1.6 GHz. The price of the quad core is 200$ more. So i am in doubt as to which one should i go for.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but for process intensive programs, the dual core will be better unless they properly thread, anything else, probably the quad
