Hi all.

I apologize if this is a silly noob question. Built a home theater system a few years ago using Mythbuntu 9.04, which took a long time to get configured right, but has worked great. Now I want to replace the motherboard & processor with something better.

What's the easiest way to do this? Is there any way to replace hardware like this in a machine and have the existing Mythbuntu (or any 'buntu, for that matter) install just "learn" about the new hardware, or is it like Windows where I have to reinstall the OS & all apps from scratch when making a change like this? I could have sworn that somebody at work said that there's a program or command you can use in Linux to have the OS seek out new hardware and install the drivers.

If I have to do a fresh install (and if so, I'll upgrade to 10.04), is there an easy way to move the MythTV settings so I don't have to reconfigure the whole thing?

If it matters, the old processors were AMD Opterons, the new one is an AMD Regor.

TIA for any info you can provide!
