View Full Version : [ubuntu] Problems Changing to New Monitor

I recently did some rearranging and wanted to use my ubuntu 9 desktop comp with a 37" lcd display with a VGA port. When I swap the monitors and boot the system, it shows the loading with no problem. But when it tries to bring up the GUI the monitor turns off and the only thing i can do is to turn the computer off.

I have gotten the new monitor to work only when I boot into the GUI with the original monitor and then change to the new one with the machine running. When I do this I can't change the resolution, and when i try to reboot i get the same problem as before. I'm sure this is because the OS still thinks i'm using the original monitor.

I'm sure I need to make some adjustment to xorg.conf, but I'm still really new overall to Linux, so that makes me a bit nervous.

Also, I don't care to be able to use the old monitor anymore, so if there was a script that would just auto detect my current monitor and switch to it that might work, but i couldn't find anything of the sort.

Thanks to anyone who can help!
