I installed Kubuntu 10.04 last month. The sound was working perfectly for audio files. Then i installed vlc media player. But sound wasn't working on vlc. I thought it was a broken installation of the codecs and reinstalled codecs. Then i uninstalled, reinstalled and installed many packages, including my sound drivers, as suggested in many forums. I've lost track of all the changes i've made. But the sound still doesn't work.
Could anyone help me figure out what the problem is and solve it? Its highly likely that my system is worse off than when I started to try repair.
