Hi,

After a recent fresh Lucid install, I created a /home partition. This to keep the /home and my personal settings separated in case I wanted to do a fresh install of the next ubuntu release and keep my settings and reload programs that I use to have on the previous release.

Here's my problem since I'm new to the way ubuntu works compared to windows. I would like to know how to copy the /home partition w/ hidden files/folders to another partition. I'll call this partition 'BACKUP'. This is due to possible 'future-human' formatting errors in case I 'checked' the format option and formatted the /home partition by mistake.

Can somebody write out the code that goes into a terminal for the process of
1. copying the /home partition to the 'backup' partition
2. copying the /home on the 'backup' partition back to the /home partition

Any and all help is appreciated!

You can probably find everything you need in this article:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Partitioning/Home/Moving

It is designed for permanently moving your /home folder, but the details of how to backup and restore the /home folder are there.
