How long do tinyurls last?

As long as tinyurl lasts. Some of these services have gone by the wayside, but tinyurl has been around the longest, AFAIK, and has received at least a couple of million dollars in funding, so it seems to be stable.

Very little is permanent.

I'd be surprised if they were still there when you are my age.

I'd be surprised if this forum is still here when you are my age as well :)

I think the question is whether or not they have a set expiry date. For example, if they will be removed if there is no activity for a month, or something similar.

I agree with the above; it seems like the OP is asking about how long a shortened URL lasts, not the website; why in the world would someone be interested in the website-he just wants to use it, not care about it.

From the TinyURL website:

By entering in a URL in the text field below, we will create a tiny URL that will not break in email postings and never expires.

Wouldn't they run out of url's to provide?

Wouldn't they run out of url's to provide?Maybe some day in the distant future. They use a number/letter combo system that has near infinite derivations (IIRC).

Youtube uses the same sort of url. With lower case, upper case and numbers there are more than enough combinations. If you do run out of urls, add a character on the end and the combinations has expanded exponentially.

No sooner than the usual set of URLs would run out. There is no limit that I know of on the length of a tinyurl, they can always just keep adding more characters.

And they can just put more letters/numbers if they start to run out of urls

Although I guess if many characters are added, the url is no longer tiny :P

That won't happen any time soon though.
