This has been bothering me for a very long while now, but not enough for me to bother asking about it.

I've looked up about the grey background in the tray in lucid, but I can't find anything where all my icons have the wrong background. This happened after I upgraded from karmic, and the problem only exists with the new themes.

It looks to me kind of like the panel is set to be, say 32px, but the icons are set to a smaller size, say 20px. The panel background is set to that gray color and shows through where the icons don't fill it. ?? Is that possible?

Not sure why lucid would have messed with your configuration, though. It shouldn't have done that. :(

Try a different icon pack?

When I have xinerama enable it messes with the transparency of the icon backgrounds. Have you got that enabled?

Or anything else that won't allow transparency?

Ah I do have xinerama enabled, I didn't of that causing a problem. The problem persists with different icons but not with different themes. Shame because I like this theme :(
