Does anyone know, how to check if something is already copyrighted in europe?

And if so, how do you get for example a business name/trademark copyrighted?

I havnt been able to find the answer with google.

Thanks on advance.

For company names:

You can also send a letter to yourself with the company or trademark name in the address, but Companies House is the more official way to go about it.

Question if someone know.

If something is copyrighted in the U.S
Would this also be automatically copyrighted in Europe?

Or if a firm only copyright something within the U.S, can another firm in Europe then copyright the exact same name. But still they both have the right to this name in their own countries?

I have no understanding about stuff like this.

As far as I know there are various treaties in Europe that link copyright to the US.

Regarding copyright, most countries are signatories of the Berne Convention (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berne_Convention_for_the_Protection_of_Literary_an d_Artistic_Works).

It would stand up in court if you have a recorded un-opened letter to yourself with the trademark/idea enclosed that you own the copyright

It really wouldn't. All it would prove is that you sent yourself a letter! Registering a trademark/copyright is a legal, technical process that is governed by legislation. To ensure that you have a legally binding trademark/copyrighted item some goods tips are here:
