I have posted about the release of Firefox 3.6.4 (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1515707) a couple of days ago. Today Mozilla released Firefox 3.6.6, which has an update to the crash protection feature to extend the amount of time Firefox will wait before terminating unresponsive plugins.

If you want to test it without interfering with your default version and user profile, then use FoxTester (http://foxtester-extension.blogspot.com/) extension.

For more info on how to install other versions of Firefox see the Installing Other Versions (http://firefox-tutorials.blogspot.com/2010/05/installing-other-versions.html) section of Firefox optimization and troubleshooting thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1193567). Keep in mind this version will be soon available for Hardy, Intrepid, Jaunty, Karmic and Lucid through the official repositories (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1500861).

Yes, you can simply do that, but You might need to create symlinks for the plugins and diverge firefox if you want to be opened by system launchers. See manual method of my tutorial.

If you just want to test, try my FoxTester (http://foxtester-extension.blogspot.com/) extension. It is really easy to use and also allows you to turn a testing version into your default browser.

Namoroka was updated to 3.6.7 today.

That is a development version from a ppa, not an official release. Since Mozilla released version 3.6.6, is natural to expect 3.6.7 or above from the ppa.

I noticed this on Windows today, though it's funny that they skipped a version.

Yeah, I couldn't upload a file to a file uploading site (with a flash uploader) because Firefox kept thinking that Flash crashed (which maybe it did, I mean it is Flash :P), so I guess that's a good thing. It worked fine in Chromium though.

This link (http://christian.legnitto.com/blog/2010/06/09/heads-up-the-next-firefox-platform-version-is-1-9-2-6-instead-of-1-9-2-5/) explains the reason why they skipped version 3.6.5.

You'll have to provide more detail than that. Flash crashing should not (and in my experience *does not*) bring down Firefox as a whole from 3.6.4 onwards. That doesn't mean you can't have crashes for various other reasons.

Well, I don't use xp so I can't discuss the subject. What I was saying is that the plugin isolation works perfectly on Ubuntu. Isn't that what you are saying doesn't work?
