I've been trying to install ubuntu 10.04 64 bit on my Sony CW laptop, but i'm having trouble even booting from the live cd. It appears to almost boot, like it shows some text ubuntu related before it goes black screen. But it does not finish, and hangs black screen.

Any ideas? Might it be that it's 64 bit.. i figured it has the 64 bit windows, so i should use the 64 bit linux.

I have the same problem with my older sony Vaio , I think its the propritery soft ware that sony installs on all there machines, thats giving you trouble .I think the only way is to wipe the hd and format it. But you will have to back up all the drivers on the laptop . Sony is really funky with linux. Sony Hasn't got a lot of compatibility when it comes to Linux. Its gona be a fight and time consuming. I am wating to install linux on mine when I have a lot of time.Hard ware drivers are a big issue here force fit won't work. email me if ya get it running, i just curious if It worked out .

64 bit is the best way to go.
