Not saying I fully support piracy or anything, but still the MPAA/RIAA just go too far for a buck.

The MPAA/RIAA have a long-standing rep for bad behavior. There's a book about
the music industry called "The Hit Men (http://www.amazon.com/Hit-Men-Brokers-Inside-Business/dp/0679730613)" that's worth reading, especially by folks who believe these groups
are worth supporting. They aren't. The music industry's ties to the mob are legendary. Payola scandals abound,
among other ugly things. It's been going on since I was a kid, at the
very least...probably longer. Their arrogance and greed apparently have
no bounds.

These are not people that should have the kind of power they've acquired
in recent years. "Piracy" to these thugs is just an excuse for extortion,
it's a scam of the worst kind. They need to be dismantled. THEN we can
deal with the kids and their downloaded mp3s and such, but we can handle
it in more reasonable ways.

On a lighter note, I love this story on the Helios blog about
"The Oldest Pirate (http://linuxlock.blogspot.com/2010/06/ive-often-made-statement-that-if-phone.html)"...it's very funny, but a little sad too. Worth a read.

I don't blindly support MPAA/RIAA and I'm not really fond of the hollywood folk given how some of their stars mouth off religions and religious people. However, I won't let my dislike for a few cloud my judgement on who is right and who is wrong. There are thousands of low-end workers making a living thanks to the entertainment industry. Artists just make movies, the workers make it an industry. Some of the pirate-bay supporters I've spoken to often complain about how the stars are overpaid and how they'll teach them a lesson by pirating their content. What they often forget is that the stars would still be paid in millions regardless. The low-end workers, however, would lose their jobs. Also, lets not forget that piracy is one of the major stumbling blocks for the adoption of free software.

I don't consider selfish scum who have no regard for others' rights to be champions of freedom.

Music and movie industry. If they insist on making an industry of someone's artistic creations, they've deserved all the crap coming their way.

I support piracy in every form (while not doing it myself) until the entire world realize quantity isn't a substitute for quality. Let's go back to the good old times where you actually had to have a well thought-out concept before some buttnuggets would finance your crap.

Bittorrent is a protocol and piratebay is a search engine .

Exactly, it's like killing Google because it contains links to illegal rapidshare files.

I don't imagine Google wants to be in the position of acting upon the requests of Internet policing groups. Exceptions would likely be child porn, distribution of national security information, etc., but file sharing I suspect is off the radar.
