Ubuntu Hours in California

Ubuntu is a world-class operating system that makes computing easy and simple. But starting out can be intimidating. Ubuntu Hour makes it easy to get started.

Your local Ubuntu Hour is a time and place where some Ubuntu users get together to chat for a bit and have some coffee or tea. They are more than happy to talk to you about what Ubuntu is, answer any questions, provide a free CD so you can try or install it, and help you get things up and running. They can also share some of the tips and tricks they've used to make their computers more convenient.

You're free to join us at any of the times below. Say hi and feel free to bring a portable computer if you have it.

Hello everyone!

I'm holding an Ubuntu Hour in Lake Forest, CA. The general idea is that we meet up for an hour someplace public wearing with some Ubuntu stuff visible (some clothing or a sticker or something) and just chat for an hour. The next two dates are:

Thursday, June 10th, 2010, 6pm - 7pm
Thursday, June 17th, 2010, 6pm - 7pm

Not only will it be fun to meet local Ubuntu fans, but we can also be a visible source of information about Ubuntu. As such, we'll be following the Ubuntu Code of Conduct which is just good common sense in a public setting anyhow.

So I'm going to be at the Panera Bread restaurant in Lake Forest at 6pm until 7pm. They have pretty decent food and free wi-fi access. I'll have my laptop and an Ubuntu hat and shirt, so please feel free to come up and say hi. :)

I'll also be there every Thursday for June and July. At that time I'll evaluate whether or not the experiment was a success, and if it was, we'll keep on going. Last week was an incredible success and I can't wait to see who shows up tonight! :) Hope to see you there!

Easily summarized as "be excellent to each other," it's good common sense in a public setting anyhow.

(this is an early alert for next month)

Come on by and meet up for the first Ubuntu Hour location in Pasadena, CA! We will hold this Ubuntu Hour at Peet's Coffee on the 2nd Thursday of every month from 6pm to 7pm. Peets is located on the SW corner of Lake Ave & California Blvd (next to Fresh & Easy).

Just an FYI for tomorrows Ubuntu Hour down in San Diego!

Hey all!

We're mixing it up with the San Diego Ubuntu hour this month! Instead of having Saturday morning coffee like the last few, we'll be having this Ubuntu hour at a Panera Bread Horton Plaza downtown during the week!

The March Ubuntu hour will be:
Tuesday, March 22 @ 7pm

Horton Plaza is a confusing place. The Panera Bread building is a free-standing structure from the actual mall, right next to the huge NBC building. (I'm Ron Burgundy?) It is right next to where they set up the ice skating rink for Christmas, by the actual Plaza. Panera Bread has a lot of space and internet access. Come discuss and network with other Ubuntu fans!

I know what you're thinking, "Downtown?! the traffic! the parking!" Its ok, calm down :)

1. Its at Horton Plaza so the parking in the adjoining Horton Plaza parking structure isfree for 3 hours, when you get your ticket validated in the mall.
2. Its 7pm on a Tuesday, so its not like the Gaslamp Quarter is out in full force
3. Its well past rush hour, traffic should be manageable!

The team has been pretty quiet release party-wise so I'd like to start out by reminding everyone that it's not too late to plan something! You are welcome to do release-related events all month, get familiar with the new release, do a few installs and host a party or installfest in the next few weeks rather than right away.

Just like in June, we've decided to sync up our monthly San Francisco Ubuntu Hour with the 2nd Wednesday date of the Bay Area Debian Meeting, to offer an evening of Ubuntu and Debian!

I stopped by Pasadena for UH last night, but didn't see anyone sporting Linux. Just a bunch of people with MACs. Did I miss everyone?
I was at the October Ubuntu Hour, but had to travel last month and was unable to attend, so I don't know how many were there. We usually get at least half a dozen people, and when I'm there I often wear my Ubucon badge and usually have my laptop lid up with its Ubuntu logo.

If you can make it to the one we're having this Thursday (Dec 13) I'll be there for sure, and look forward to meeting you.
