Hey guys,
I recently got a virus god knows how... and I can clearly see its effect three ways.
1. After I boot, I can login and it loads normally for about 30 seconds then i get an error message about explorer crashing and it restarts windows explorer. That was my first sign.
2. Chrome wont work... Its odd, but when I turn on chrome it wont load anything so Im using firefox for the time being
3. When I google anything and click on the link I go to any number of random ad websites. This is very annoying. I can get around this by using the ssl version of google (https:\\www.google.com).
Once upon a time I had a similar virus and I got rid of it with an AVG scan. I did an AVG scan and it found four trojans and healed them. But this still happens. I would use a knoppix live cd to do a scan but I don't understand command line virus scanners.

What can I do?

Thanks,
Chode

Use Startup Disk Creator to make a bootable USB install of Ubuntu, install an anti virus product to it, eg Bitdefender and boot with it on your infected computer and scan the windows drive.,

Keep the flash handy, you'll most likely not be able to stop yourself from installing malware to your computer again.

I would suggest you have a look here (http://www.techmixer.com/free-bootable-antivirus-rescue-cds-download-list/). With that, this thread is closed, as this is an Ubuntu support forum.
