I am new to Ubuntu.):P I've downloaded the Desktop 10.4 version and installed it onto a USB drive. The problem is, my laptop does not boot to USB.

I've got an ISO file as well but my CD drive does not work:(

Is there any way for me to install Ubuntu or am I knackered?

I have windows XP Home installed and just wanted to run a Ubuntu installation program from within Windows which would install Ubuntu, but can't find any info on how to do it.

Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: After more research, I've come across Wubi and suspect that it may solve this issue. I'll give it a bash and find out.

Wubi won't really solve anything because it's designed to be short term try, not long term install. Sooner or later you will have issues with it.

You really need to have a bootable device on your computer. For repair, restore, etc. You can't leave yourself without it. If USB is no option, is it too much to invest in new optical drive?
