View Full Version : Any good alternatives to Google services?

I have a love/hate relationship with Google. I think they have done a lot of good and continue to do so. I use Google as my default search engine and also Gmail as my email client.

I love the services provided by Google but i do wonder where they are heading. Whilst not being paranoid i would like to over the next while find alternatives because i do feel that in a few years to come that using Google services may not be the best choices from a privacy point of view, if that has not already happened.

I have looked into alternatives and have come up with a few. The main alternatives i would be looking for are an alternative search engine and alternative email client. There seem to be a huge amount of good alternative search engines but I'm more stuck for a good email client. I would preferably like to find one with a similar interface. I have no interest in using Hotmail.

So has anyone found any good alternatives to Googles services, specifically a search engine and email client, although i would be happy to hear on any other alternative services to Google services.

Zoho kills.

Zoho is not an alternative to G, but the other way around.

No and I don't see why you'd be saver with another service provider.

Why do you say zoho is evil? Tried it and thought it was overkill for a web app. Nice idea but wouldn't use it.

Zoho is not a web app. It's bunch of web apps tightly integrated. And for organizations, it kills. Even for personal, it still rocks.

Sammi: In fact we do search too. We have started with a combined, actionable search across a few of Zoho services like Zoho Docs, Mail etc and it'll get extended to other Zoho services and other third-party apps.

Thanks to other Ubuntu users for the good words about Zoho :)
