Hi I bought a wired broadband dsl router to provide another layer of security for my computer running ubuntu. I just plugged it in without installing any software etc. It blocks the internet connection. Would you tell me what I need to do. Thanks for the replies.

Your router probably needs setting up, check the documentation to see how to access the management console.
This question really has nothing to do with security, moved to Networking & Wireless.

It didn't come with documentation or software. Can you recommend software for linux? How would I access management console without software?

Most routers these days come with a configuration page you access through your web browser and don't really need software. The address to direct your browser to can depend on the make and model router.
