Welcome to Ubuntu! Sadly your post may not receive many "walk-throughs" without some idea of what task you need to be walked-through. It's always good to be as specific as you can about problems you might have.

It's a good sign that you are here though, because you figured that part out by yourself. That's a good start! :)

Firstly, welcome.
What do want to walk through? Very hard to walk you through when there is no problem stated. If you want to learn how to use ubuntu/linux there are lots of stuff here (http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=100) and also there is lots on the general Internet. Just be prepared to read a lot of stuff and take things slowly and of course come back here and ask when you have a specific problem.

You just have to learn from experience. I took a whole lot of precaution to not mess up my system, but in it's inevitability I ended up doing it like 3 times (complete reinstallation). The more you try to avoid problems the less you can learn from them.

Just try to equip yourself to be prepared for any problems that come your way; The best way to do that, I think we would all agree hands down, is to learn how to use the terminal. I recommend this site (http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/linuxcommand.org/learning_the_shell.php).

I myself am almost an intermediate at shell script and terminal commands; and I did a complete swap to Ubuntu a little over a year ago. So yes, it will take some time, and there most likely will be a few hiccups on you way to having a Cup Full of Ubuntu. So the only thing you should be doing is learning as much as you can about Linux and how everything works.

N.B. This forum is a great place to start. Nice going.

I do have a problem I know I'll really need some help with and that bash scripting. I'm currently taking a Linux class (Fedora/RHEL) and that's something i really don't understand.

I am still a newbie, but I do have a system up and running. I chronicled my experience at http://ubuntulinuxnoviceguide.webs.com/ . You might want to look at it for hints on what some other newbie did. It is a project in work and I am now working on a file backup document, an iPod interaction document, and a cd/dvd document.
