When installing Ubuntu Server 9.10 (onto a gatewar 6400), it hangs at the screen Retrieving libc6-udeb. How do I fix this?

You could try any one of the following 3 things:

1. Try a different installer CD
2. Update the BIOS on your computer
3. Try a different CD-ROM drive.

When this was reported in the past, it was usually linked to a hardware problem.

sorry, I forgot to mention that I tried downloading from different sources, different burning tools, different burning computers, different drives, different cables, all that. How wqould I update my bios?

Commonly this problem is related to cd drive, but then why Ubuntu never fix this? Cd drive is fine, md5sum is correct, md5sum after burning also identical. I've been using using ubuntu since version 7 and this problem keeps popping up through current version. Right now I also have this problem, trying to install ubuntu server 10.04 LTS.

I'm running out cd drive to try, and if my last drive won't install it, I'll have no choice by switching to CentOS which is downloading now.
