new to Ubuntu. Installed 10.04 from a setup CD. Installation ran great. THen was prompted to install additional updates possible 180+ updates. Installed updates. Now when I reboot the system before the desktop appears I receive the following:

error: No suitable mode found
error" unknown command "Terminal"

THe unbuntu desktop appears all blank with no icons. Thanks for any help

A weird bug.

Do you have your menu's when you start ubuntu or don't you have anything? The errors you have, do you see them in a terminal, or as a popup?

Maybe, you can try installing a Terminal command (it's just a try and will probably not work)

sudo apt-get install terminal.app

Thanks for the reply. I see them on the terminal before the ubuntu desktop appears with no menu bar or anything. Looking around other posts it seems it may be relevant to the video card resolution factor possibly. I really am very new to linux and ubuntu in particular. Need to educate myself.
