Can't get to login screen after upgrading to 9.04

Okay, so I upgraded to 9.04, and now I can't get to the login screen. Specifically, the login screen is visually broken. It doesn't display anything close to what it should be displaying. However, this is different from the simple "reconfigure driver" issue, because I already tried that, and I also currently have no driver for my graphics card.

My previous thread is pretty much this same thing, but now there's more information.

Did you mean 9.04, over a year old now, or the latest long term release, Lucid 10.04?

Well, I was upgrading from 8.04 originally, so....
The grub menu says that it's 9.04, and so far that seems pretty trustworthy. -shrug-
