View Full Version : [ubuntu] Horrific upgrade fail.

Since I have absolutely no idea what the problem is, that's what I'm calling it.

Okay, so I upgraded ubuntu recently, and something really awesome happened. Okay, I'm a filthy liar; it sucks.

The upgrade seemed to have gone fine, except, when I rebooted my computer, it loaded Ubuntu (Ubuntu + loading bar thing was fine), but once the loading bar was full, instead of it going to the typical log-in screen, it basically looked like my computer had a stroke, because I couldn't make out a single thing that was on it. It had a sort of white bars thing going on at the bottom, which is kind of hard to explain unless you've had this problem too.

My questions are these:
1) How do I fix this? (ran a memory test and tried a different kernel already)
2) If the solution is to reinstall Ubuntu, from disk (which will be a downgraded version), will my files be deleted off of my hard drive?

I'm currently running my OS off of the disk, doing the "no changes" thing. Any help whatsoever would be very VERY much appreciated.
