I always wanted to have different icons on each virtual desktop in gnome, but never found anyone giving a solution to this already known problem. Today I updated my Ubuntu to version 10.04, after setting up compiz with cube enabled with four different images on each side I decided to add a widget to follow the World Cup news. When I thought that I remembered of the gnome problem and was in doubt if the widget would appear or not. I searched on google and soon discovered that the best option would be the Screenlets application, after installing I realized that had a screenlet called "Launcher" where I could use it to make shortcuts to any application. I tested and worked perfectly. I soon realized that this was an excellent solution to circumvent the gnome problem.

I uploaded a zip file with two videos, a demonstration of how it look like and one of how to add the shortcuts and icons.

I did everything in a little hurry, just before the Brazil game, which was not very good. :(

But I hope to help someone who wanted different icons and different wallpapers on each desktop while using gnome!
