It seems your disk is Dynamic Disk in windows. At least that's what google says SFS partition type is.

I'm not sure what would be the best way to have this recognized by ubuntu. Not sure if it even can recognize it.

Usually the disk would be Basic disk, not Dynamic.

You might search around now that you know what the issue probably is.

thank you very much !

Another question: In order to get a clean installation of both OS, each on a clean partition, can I format the whole HD ?
The problem is how to do so, withou access to windows?

I know it is a radical measure, but Iwould have a clean HD after that ;)

I have the same problem, upgraded to lucid from Karmic and now if I select XP from startup menu just get flashing cursor. I'm assuming this is a grub2 issue but would appreciate some help in fixing this. Output from Boot Info Script is as follows.

So start your own thread as every-bodies problems are different, and post the script in code tags as my sig describes and remove the script from here; as it gets in the way of this persons problem,;) The script without the code tags takes up to much space as you can see from the thread. If you look at the OP post that is what it should look like for easy viewing and quick help.

You can run gparted in livecd...format your hd...then install ubuntu fresh.

@DJI274

Your problem is nothing like this. So, please open your own thread.

On another note, it seems you have XP install on three partitions??? How many are you running?

Explain little more in your thread.
