This question has been asked many times however they all seem to have the same answers or not for Australia.

I need to buy a new laptop however i dont want to pay for windows for 2 reasons 1. i rarely use it and 2. i already have a copy.

Does anyone know were i can buy a laptop in Australia (Brisbane if possible) that comes with a linux system or even no os.

I purchased two computers from my local Rep of ASI Computers during the last four years, both built to my specifications one with Windows XP Pro the other (the islatest one) bare with no OS installed. The thing I liked about the company & local Rep I have help/service or advice same day or next day(only three callouts in four years)and it's local. The ASI Computers are built in Sydney so there is a little delay but from my experience it has been worth it. TopEnder

I havent seen a single (factory) assembled laptop without windows, ever.

I'll ask the guys I know who used to build barebones laptops...somebody might know. I think I've said this to you before, but the OCAU forums are far more likely to know where to find a laptop with no OS in australia than here.

If only somebody imported the OCZDYI17B1 laptops, it would be easy.

BTW, you are aware that windows post 2K can only legally be installed on one computer, right?

They all have windows installed.....and they are about 10% expensive than the decent computer parts shops sell the same laptops.

I took a look at that site and noticed that if you choose to have no Windows on the laptop there is no reduction of the price

So its a case of paying for Windows or paying for nothing, hmmmmmm

Surely that would only be the OEM version, I have had my XP on five different computers, one at a time of course, and been able to activate it each time (by phone) without any problems.

I just answered this question.

We can also provide notebook systems with Windows or Linux pre-installed.

Didn't mean anything towards you, ):P

I just posted an observation about the pricing, I actually went there because I am looking for a laptop and would prefer to not pay for something I will not use, thats why I checked the prices.

For branded one, Dell seems to ship some (Latitude and Vostro) with Ubuntu. Sorry not very familiar with Australia. But have a look:
