About 4 to 5 weeks ago I replaced with a fresh install, one of my older Ubuntu (ArtistX – Ubuntu 8.10) with the latest 10.04 My first problems started soon after the initial clean installation and were reported in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9307116
The Xubuntu issue was solved and proceeded to discover all the nice new features of 10.04. Unfortunately my problems continued in a major and minor way and were reported in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1507586 a few days ago. The crash on start up became worst (1 in 2 or at the most 3 startups was a crash).
Today a new issue appeared: I lost access to keyboard in all functions under 10.04 including terminal. I tried the other systems installed in the same computer (XP home and Ubuntu 9.10) and there was no problem. I tried a couple of live CDs – including the 10.04 live CD - and again no problem. Only under the installed 10.04 (when it was not crashing) I had absolutely no access to keyboard. I tried to change the keyboard model from Preferences/Keyboard but nothing worked.
So after all that and despite the fact that I liked very much some of the new features of 10.04 I decided to replace it and ended up reinstalling ArtistX (Ubuntu 8.10) and all is working fine.
I am really sorry for this because indeed 10.04 was very promising. I will watch for a new update and may risk to try it again. I understand that the task of putting together a new version is gigantic and almost superhuman. I wish I could help somehow. My in depth computer knowledge is rather limited. I can provide the INFO for the computer that gave me this problem if it will help. I will have to do it either from XP home or from Ubuntu 9.10 or 8.10 possibly using terminal commands and copy them to a text editor which I will send as attachment.
Keep up the good work UBUNTU team and thank you for your efforts
