View Full Version : [ubuntu] How To Install Karmic From A Local Thumb Drive

I have Ubuntu 9.10 installed on my Toshiba laptop, and, as is the way with such installs, all of the packages I downloaded are stored on my hard drive under /var/cache/apt/archives.
I want to install the same system on to my wife's laptop. The base system will come, of course, from an installation CD. I would also like to "fill out" her system with the packages I downloaded and installed on my machine. At the same time, I don't want to spend all the time necessary to download all of these packages again, especially in view of the fact that I already have them on my disk. So, my question is, what files are necessary to copy from my drive to a thumb drive, in addition to the packages themselves, and, once the base system is on her system, what is the best approach to making synaptic aware that there is a local repository on the plugged-in thumb drive? Thanks for any help you can give me on this.
