The page for it on adobe's site is gone, but I still managed to snag a copy, and will be updating the adobe tools soon...

oh, and it was pulled because of http://www.adobe.com/support/security/advisories/apsa10-01.html

Yah - it was 10.0.45.2 was latest version of 64bit flash - that had been just kinda a stopping point and put on hold as adobe has been focused on 10.1 development for 32bit all platforms. So they kinda just kept it around.. but now that a major security bug was found in 10.0.45.2, instead of going back and fixing the 64bit version of 10.0.45.2 they just took it offline all together.. SOoooo I'm betting now that 10.1 is official for 32bit / all platforms, they are close to putting out a 10.1 64bit alpha to get that ball rolling again.. Hence forget patching 10.0.x - lets work on new 10.1 and move foward... But I'd like to get some official word from adobe.

The current site shows 10.1 beta for 64bit is now closed, when in fact there to my knowledge was NEVER a 10.1 beta, alpha or antyhing else for 64bit linux.. YET...That line on the site and all the news sites that picked it up on the net should state 10.0 Beta Is now closed for 64bit linux... and 10.1 64bit linux beta is not yet available...

Nice. Real <expletive> nice. I really hope this is some transitive state where they plan to offer an official version soon.

Companies anger me- I wish open source video player options were adopted more often. At least that way, noone gets left in the dark.

I like how the Flash Player 10.1 Desktop forum says:

Important: Do not use this forum to discuss the Flash Player 10 64-bit Linux prerelease or Flash Player 10 and earlier release players. Follow these links to discuss these topics:
and then it links to a read-only forum.

Merged two threads on the same subject, there are a couple of more, but they've fallen off the first page.

So how bad is this actually? Will using youtube and regular flash sites kill us with this? If it's a matter of staying away from dangerous sites. If it is I'm sticking with my 64 bit.

I do agree that HTML 5 should be adopted soon, and this only strengthens that viewpoint.

I am no fan of flash. I sometimes have it installed to view the random video link, but I usually disable the plugin in FF/Iceweasel.

Someone should kill flash.

Even surfing known sites can couse harm if there are malicious flash ads embedded. But the exploits are probably not written for 64bit Linux.

you know that the adobe flash player (32bit) + nspluginwrapper (this is the default setup) works properly on the new flash?

yay! (and yes, by working properly, it can display 720p youtube vids in fullscreen the flash clicky problem is gone)

At least we have a fix that doesn't require a installing a 32bit browser like the Windows 64 users.

I would resort to that if necessary, but in my experience nspluginwrapper has always been extremely buggy. Perhaps that was just in older versions? I can remember the browser crashing and flash thumbnails staying embedded in my desktop! Many times I would have to reload a page 3-4 times to get flash to load, etc. Since using the 64bit flash, Ive had no issues.

Actually, the 64bit flashplayer 10 was always in beta. It was never "officially" dubbed as a stable release.

Hopefully gnash (or the other open source alternative, i forget it's name) will improve soon

Swfdec I believe. I agree, that would be great. I would then like flash. :)

I run 64 bit 9.10 and just ran updates and got an update for flash-installer.

It seems to have fixed the lag with maximizing and minimizing and seems much improved!

Version is:

flashplugin-installer 10.1.53.64ubuntu0.9.10.1

Correct you are sir for the 10.0 alpha series, but as d2gloablinc said, there never was a 10.1 series beta release.

That wasn't the one I was on about, there's a newer one. I'd completely forgot about swfdec though

EDIT: Found the other one I was thinking of Lightspark (http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2010/05/lightspark-open-source-flash-player.html)

At least we actually had x64 Flash. Other operating systems (ie. Windows) didn't even have one.

Right, both OSX and Windows had it worse in this area.
But I dont think 64bit flash is dead, there is nothing suggesting it is... but they did say there is a halt for it, not necessarily killing it off.
However with the rise of HTML5 and Silverlight this seems to be an odd move

I haven't fully tested it, but the 32bit actually fixed an issue for me.

Anyway, soon there will be tons of threads with people complaining about the new flash.

Oh no, it works flawlessly on my computer and the performance is much better than the 32 bit build](*,)

I abandoned x32 flash when x64 came out, x32 never worked well here with nsplugin wrapper. However I was now forced to use x32 due to the fact that Adobe abandoned x64 flash and we were left with a old vulnerable flash to use. So with trepidation, I attempted to try out latest x32 adobe flash from partner repo, surprise surprise, it works well even with the dreaded nsplugin wrapper. Full screen is excellent as well and its got less CPU spikes than the x64 counterpart. Also it works flawlessly on FF, Chrome and Opera here.

I went back to the 32 ndiswrapper version (using your app) and all seems to be ok with the exception of pausing, stopping, progressing, turning up the volume, skipping the to the next video, starting autoplay....on and on....

Tis does not happen every time but enough to drive me a little insane

Try this:

gksudo gedit /usr/lib/nspluginwrapper/i386/linux/npviewer

Add the following line before the last line of the file opened by the previous command:

export GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1

Save and restart the browser.

I appreciate this LL, and will keep it for reference, but I went back to the 64 bit and will keep it

In theory, the 64-bit wrapper for the 32-bit plugin can be done on Windows as well, although I do not think anyone is willing to do it.

Its only killed for v10.1.
Not the entire platform.

Well... Thats what this used to say:

I see its now changed. But still only says a v10 release has been killed but there will be a future release.

lightspark sounds interesting. but i wonder if they will enter a phase where it is a decent replacement for flash 10 sooner than swfdec or gnash will, and these have been around for ages...
i also don't get what adobe's deal is with flash. i mean what's the business model behind flash? why not open source it and leave it... pros will still buy Flash (the authoring environment)... i mean html is open source and pros still buy dreamweaver...
