I would like to set a permanent, transparent and immovable terminal over my desktop background. I've tried various out-of-date guides to doing this, but all of them left me with a border around my window (I think Emerald caused this) and completely mobile terminals. It is as if my terminal background has just been turned completely transparent. I would like to have it so that it looks like the one in this video:

Thanks for reading and thanks even more for replies!

Try this I made it a while ago and it worked back then ... I don't see anything that changed over the years.

This works, but the terminal is still movable and close-able. I'm thinkin of one that is more stationary and permanent.

Thanks for the comment though.

A while ago I wanted to have a terminal background too, but was daunted by the lack of reliable info on the web. What I would recommend to you is to try a little program called: guake

sudo apt-get install guake

It provides an instant drop down terminal (similarly to old-fashioned First Person Shooter games). I've actually grown to like it very much and it's extremely quick and responsive. You can even assign custom hotkeys. For example, for me it shows when I hit F12 (never ever used this button, anyway).

Yeah I'm currently using Guake. Tilda is another cool one. I have my guake set to F2, because F12 is too far away. :)

Thanks!
