I am upgrading several system from 8.04 LTS to 10.04 LTS

The 8.04 system had software raid set up on the root partition and the dist-upgrade doesn not recognize it.

I upgraded one system a while ago by starting with an alternate install cd and running some of the upgrade which re-installed grub correctly and everything was fine from then. I found the information on line but now can't find it again.

Any pointers?

I had another problem with the upgrade which was quickly resolved, it would not proprietary upgrade OpenOffice and reverted to the original install. I removed OpenOffice and everything went fine. I'll reinstall OpenOffice if I actually need it in the future.

If the system had an actual software raid there would not be a /dev/mapper/. That would be found only if dmraid discovered meta data on drives for a MB bios implemented raid set also known as fakeraid. I believe for a software raid you would be looking for something like /dev/md/.
